What Do I Do if My Crown Becomes Loose?
If your dental crown becomes loose, it is best to contact us as soon as possible. Here are some helpful tips to remember:
- Chew on the Opposite Side of Your Mouth - When possible, try to chew your food on the opposite side of your mouth.
- Don’t Mess With or Wiggle the Crown - It is best to avoid messing with the crown as this can damage the tooth or crown.
- Avoid Sticky or Hard Foods - Try to avoid these foods as it can cause the crown to become completely dislodged or damaged.
- Continue to Practice Good Oral Hygiene - When the crown is loose, food and other particles can get under it. It is important that you continue to practice good oral hygiene to prevent tooth decay on the tooth structure.
What Do I Do if My Crown Falls Out?
If your crown falls out, remember these tips:
- Find the Crown - If the crown falls out of your mouth, carefully locate the crown. If the crown is not damaged, we may be able to rebond the crown to your tooth.
- Determine if the Crown or Tooth Is Broken - Look at the crown and check for damage. Look at the inside and make sure there aren’t any pieces of the tooth attached.
- Contact Our Office - Call our dental practice so we can schedule an appointment for you to come in to have your crown rebonded to your tooth.
- Clean the Crown - Be careful not to lose the crown or drop it down the sink.
- Store the Crown - Place the crown in a plastic container or secured bag. Put it somewhere it cannot be lost or damaged.
What if the Dental Crown Can’t Be Saved?
In some instances, a dental crown cannot be rebonded to a tooth. This may be the case if the crown is damaged or lost or that it will not properly fit on the tooth again due to damage to the tooth structure.
